01 / OVERVIEW

What is GPT-Live-1?

GPT-Live-1 is OpenAI's model for spoken conversation. Full duplex means it can process incoming speech while producing a response, so you can interrupt or add a detail without treating every exchange as a separate turn.

ChatGPT Voice is a finished product; the API is a way to build your own experience. Their access rules and supported features differ. This guide helps you choose which documentation to read and which workflow to test.

02 / HOW IT WORKS

How a live conversation works

The voice model manages the conversation. A separate backend can look up information or do deeper work, then return an answer for the voice model to explain.

Keep listening

You can add a clarification while the conversation continues.

Delegate deeper work

A backend model or service handles the task it receives.

Bring the answer back

The voice model uses the result in its next response.

03 / CHOOSE A WORKFLOW

Choose the right audio workflow

Start with the result you need: a conversation that responds to you, or an audio file for something you are making.

01

Live conversation

A useful direction when speaking and responding are part of the task.

  • Language practice: stop to ask what a word means.
  • Hands-free planning: revise an idea as you talk.
  • Voice support: clarify a question while a lookup runs.

02

Create an audio asset

A useful direction when you want to listen, revise, and use a finished clip.

  • Narration for a product demonstration.
  • Sound effects for a game or short video.
  • Dialogue and ambience for a scene.

SeedAudio focuses on audio creation. This guide does not offer a GPT-Live conversation inside SeedAudio.

05 / BEFORE YOU BUILD

What to test before you build

Use a short task from your own product. These are evaluation suggestions, not results from a SeedAudio GPT-Live integration.

  1. Interruptions and quiet moments

Correct a detail midway through an answer. Pause to think. Check whether the conversation follows your intent.

  2. Accents and background noise

Repeat the task with the languages, voices, and surroundings your users will actually bring.

  3. Waiting for a backend answer

Ask a follow-up while a lookup is running. Check that the eventual answer matches your revised question.

  4. Session limits and recovery

End the session, lose the connection, and start again. Make the next step clear without losing the task.
